LPG Boiler Replacement
in a Park Home
When your park home's LPG boiler is broken or near the end of its life, we replace it with an air source heat pump and take £9,000 off through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. That is the only swap we offer: we don't fit like-for-like LPG boilers, though the honest numbers for that route are on this page too.
- £9,000 grant now live for LPG-to-heat-pump swaps
- Qualifying swaps from £399 fully installed*
- £9,000 rate ends 31 March 2027, first come, first served
*From £399 after the £9,000 grant on qualifying LPG or oil swaps. Final price confirmed at survey.
LPG boiler not working? You have three options
Repair, another LPG boiler, or the grant-funded swap to a heat pump. Only the third is something we offer, and here is the honest maths on all three.
Repair the boiler
Worth it when the boiler is under 10 years old and the fault is minor. A repair by a Gas Safe LPG engineer typically costs £150 to £400. Repeated breakdowns, a failed heat exchanger, or discontinued parts tip the maths toward replacement. Repair is not work we offer.
Fit another LPG boiler
A like-for-like LPG combi swap runs £1,800 to £3,000 fitted at market rates, and commits you to delivered fuel, tank rental, and annual servicing for another 10 to 15 years. We don't offer this swap, and with £9,000 on the table we wouldn't recommend it either.
Swap to a heat pump (what we do)
Our offer, and the only one on this page. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes £9,000 off an air source heat pump when a park home replaces LPG heating, until 31 March 2027. Qualifying swaps start from £399 fully installed, and the LPG bills stop.
What does a new LPG boiler cost in a park home?
At 2026 market rates, a like-for-like LPG combi boiler swap costs £1,800 to £3,000 fitted, or £3,000 to £5,500 with a new tank. An external LPG boiler costs a little more than an internal model but frees up cupboard space. There is no single best LPG boiler for every park home; what matters is an LPG-compatible model sized to your rooms, fitted by a Gas Safe registered engineer with LPG qualifications and the park-home competency.
It is not work we do, and the running costs explain why: an annual service at £80 to £130, tank rental, and fuel deliveries at market prices, for the 10 to 15 years the new boiler lasts, with no grant against any of it. The only LPG boiler replacement we offer ends those bills entirely: a heat pump with £9,000 off.
Air source heat pump vs LPG: which costs less to run?
The upfront question gets the attention, but the running costs decide what you pay over the next 15 years. Here is how the two systems compare in a typical park home.
| Air source heat pump | LPG boiler | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per kWh of heat | Around 8.7p at a seasonal efficiency of 3.0, on the Ofgem July to September 2026 cap of ~26p per kWh of electricity. | Roughly 10p to 14p, from LPG at 65p to 90p per litre through a boiler running at about 90% efficiency. |
| Price stability | Electricity prices are capped by Ofgem, and heat-pump tariffs price overnight units lower still. | Tracks global propane markets plus delivery. Winter top-ups often land at the most expensive moment. |
| Deliveries and storage | None. Nothing is delivered and nothing is stored on your plot. | A tank or cylinder bank on your plot, refilled by scheduled or emergency delivery. |
| Supplier switching | Switch electricity supplier or tariff online in minutes. | Rented tanks tie you to one supplier; switching means contract exit terms and a tank transfer or swap. |
| Annual servicing | A simple annual check. No combustion and no flue to inspect. | £80 to £130 every year by a Gas Safe LPG engineer to keep the warranty valid. |
| Upfront cost | From £399 fully installed after the £9,000 grant on qualifying LPG swaps, until 31 March 2027. | £1,800 to £3,000 fitted like for like; £3,000 to £5,500 with a new tank. No grant applies. |
| Typical lifespan | 15 to 20 years. | 10 to 15 years. |
Is LPG being phased out?
Four questions park home owners on LPG are asking in 2026, answered against the published policy.
- Policy
Is LPG heating being banned?
No. There is no ban and no date by which you must stop using LPG. The direction of travel is still clear: government money for off-gas-grid homes funds the switch to heat pumps, and the £9,000 uplift for LPG swaps exists precisely to move homes like yours off delivered fuel (GOV.UK announcement, 26 June 2026).
- Alternatives
What are the off-grid heating options for a park home?
Four realistic ones: LPG, oil, direct electric, and an air source heat pump. Per unit of heat delivered, the heat pump is the cheapest of the four to run, and it is the only option the Boiler Upgrade Scheme funds. Oil and LPG mean tanks and deliveries; direct electric is the most expensive way to make heat in Britain.
- Electric
Is switching from LPG to electric heating a good idea?
Only one kind of electric. Panel heaters and electric boilers turn one unit of electricity into one unit of heat at around 26p per kWh, and attract no grant. A heat pump is electric heating done efficiently: three units of heat per unit of electricity, roughly 8.7p per kWh, with £9,000 off the install. Our guide to replacing electric heating in a park home covers that swap at its £7,500 rate.
- Oil
Is an oil to LPG conversion worth it?
Rarely, in 2026. Converting costs £3,500 to £7,000 at market rates and swaps one delivered fuel for another: you keep the tank and the deliveries, and prices track global markets either way. Both oil and LPG homes now qualify for the same £9,000 heat pump grant, which usually beats trading tanks. See our breakdown of oil boiler replacement in a park home if that is your current fuel.
How does the £9,000 heat pump grant work for LPG swaps?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays its top rate when an off-gas-grid home replaces LPG heating. Nearly every residential park home qualifies on the fuel test.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £9,000 toward an MCS-certified air source heat pump when your park home replaces LPG heating. The rate went live on 21 July 2026 and runs until 31 March 2027; we covered the uplift announcement in detail when it landed. Your home needs to be your main residence on a residential-licensed park in England or Wales, and no EPC is required: a recent LPG bill and photos of your boiler count as evidence, and we submit them to Ofgem for you.
The tank goes too. A rented tank returns to your LPG supplier once the account closes, cylinders go back for the deposit, and an owned tank can be removed or sold, freeing up the corner of the plot it sat on. The heat pumps we fit on park plots run on a standard single-phase supply and work with the radiators you already have; the full price arithmetic is in our breakdown of what a park home heat pump costs.

We fit and commission the heat pump, register the warranty, and close out the paperwork. You pay the balance with the grant already deducted.
What do LPG park home owners ask?
The grant and the switch first, then straight answers on LPG servicing, repairs, tanks, and engineers, including the work we don't do ourselves.
Does UKEM repair or install LPG boilers?
No. The only LPG work we do is replacing LPG heating with an MCS-certified air source heat pump under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, with the £9,000 grant deducted from the price. We don't service, repair, or fit LPG boilers, and we don't arrange anyone who does. If you're set on staying with LPG, you'll need a Gas Safe engineer with LPG qualifications; if you're ready to leave it, we handle the whole job including the Ofgem paperwork.
Can I get a grant for a new LPG boiler?
No. No government scheme funds a new LPG boiler. The ECO4 scheme covers efficiency measures for benefit-qualifying households until December 2026, but not LPG boiler swaps. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme only funds low-carbon systems: the £9,000 applies when you replace LPG heating with a heat pump, never when you stay on LPG.
Is there a £500 heat pump grant?
No. The government heat pump grant is £7,500, rising to £9,000 for oil and LPG swaps until 31 March 2027, through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. The £500 figure you may have seen is the EV chargepoint grant, a separate scheme for electric car chargers. Some energy suppliers also run their own £500 promotions on top of the main grant.
Who removes the LPG tank when I switch?
If the tank is rented, it belongs to your LPG supplier and they collect it once the account closes; check your contract for notice periods and any removal charge. If you own the tank, you arrange removal or sale, and cylinder users simply return the bottles. We talk through the tank plan at your survey so nothing is left stranded on your plot.
My LPG boiler is a combi. Can a heat pump still do my hot water?
Yes. A heat pump heats a hot water cylinder instead of making hot water on demand, so you gain stored hot water sized to your household. On park plots the cylinder fits in a compact indoor footprint or an outdoor cabinet beside the unit. Your survey sizes both the heat pump and the cylinder to your home before anything is ordered.
When should I replace an LPG boiler rather than repair it?
LPG boilers last 10 to 15 years. Under 10 years old with a minor fault, repair usually wins. Replace when the heat exchanger fails, parts are discontinued, or you are on your second or third breakdown in as many winters. At that age, put the repair money toward whichever system comes next rather than patching the old one.
How much does an LPG boiler service cost?
Typically £80 to £130 for an annual service by a Gas Safe engineer qualified for LPG. Servicing every year keeps the manufacturer's warranty valid and catches flue and combustion faults early. A heat pump has no combustion to check, so its annual visit is a simpler and cheaper affair.
Do I need an LPG gas engineer near me, or can any plumber do it?
Any engineer touching an LPG boiler must be Gas Safe registered with LPG qualifications, and work in a residential park home needs the park-home LPG competency on their card; a general plumber is not enough. Ask to see the back of their Gas Safe ID, or search by postcode on the Gas Safe Register and filter for LPG.
Is it worth switching LPG supplier instead of replacing the system?
If your boiler has years left in it, yes, compare suppliers: unit prices vary meaningfully, and switching is easiest when you own your tank. If the boiler is near the end of its life, decide on the system first. A fresh LPG contract with exit fees makes a heat pump switch more awkward later, and the £9,000 window closes 31 March 2027.
