Oil Boiler Replacement
in a Park Home
We replace park home oil boilers with an air source heat pump, £9,000 off under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, and the tank leaves with it. That swap is the only work we sell; the real costs of staying on oil are laid out below.
- £9,000 off when a park home leaves oil for a heat pump
- Qualifying installs from £399, fully fitted*
- Uplift closes 31 March 2027; funding is first come, first served
*From £399 after the £9,000 grant on qualifying oil or LPG swaps. Final price confirmed at survey.
How does the £9,000 heat pump grant work for oil swaps?
Oil heating is precisely what the Boiler Upgrade Scheme's top tier was written for, and a residential park home on oil passes the fuel test almost by definition.
Since 21 July 2026, replacing oil heating with an MCS-certified air source heat pump has earned the top Boiler Upgrade Scheme rate: £9,000, available until 31 March 2027 (our news desk unpacked the uplift announcement on the day). The eligibility test is short. The park home is your main residence, the park holds a residential licence, and you are in England or Wales. An EPC is not on the list: a recent oil bill plus photos of the boiler is the accepted evidence, and submitting it to Ofgem is our job, not yours.
What about the tank? Draining, disconnection, and removal all get planned at the survey, and usable kerosene left in it can often be transferred or sold rather than written off. The heat pumps we fit on park plots need nothing more than the single-phase supply you already have, and they run the existing radiators. For the line-by-line arithmetic behind the £399 figure, read what a park home heat pump costs.

Survey and paperwork
An engineer sizes the system, reads the park's written rules on outside units, photographs the no-EPC evidence, and agrees the plan for the tank and any oil still in it. The Ofgem application goes in from here.

Heat pump in, commissioned, warranty registered, paperwork closed out. The £9,000 is already off the balance you pay.
Air source heat pump vs oil: which costs less to run?
A boiler is a 15-year commitment, so the price of the heat matters more than the price of the box. Row by row, this is what each system asks of a typical park home over its life.
| Air source heat pump | Oil boiler | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per kWh of heat | About 8.7p: the Ofgem July to September 2026 electricity cap of ~26p per kWh divided by a seasonal efficiency of 3.0. | Roughly 6p to 10p, from kerosene at 55p to 95p per litre through a boiler running at about 90% efficiency. Where in that range you land depends on when you buy. |
| Price stability | Capped by the Ofgem price cap, with heat-pump tariffs discounting overnight units further. | Uncapped. Tracks global oil markets plus delivery, and winter top-ups land at the most expensive moment. |
| Deliveries and storage | Nothing arrives by tanker and nothing sits on the plot. | A tank on your plot, minimum orders of around 500 litres, and the tank's condition, leaks, and security are your responsibility. |
| Buying the fuel | It is just your electricity bill; changing supplier or tariff takes minutes online. | Shopping around each order helps, but every quote moves with the same market. Buying in summer is cheaper, if you can afford to fill the tank early. |
| Annual servicing | One straightforward yearly check, with no combustion, flue, or tank involved. | £75 to £130 every year by an OFTEC registered technician, plus keeping the tank sound. |
| Upfront cost | Qualifying oil swaps start at £399 fully installed once the £9,000 grant is applied, until 31 March 2027. | £3,000 to £5,000 fitted like for like; £1,500 to £2,500 more if the tank needs replacing. No grant applies. |
| Typical lifespan | 15 to 20 years. | 10 to 15 years. |
Oil heating not working? You have three options
A broken oil boiler leaves three realistic routes. We only sell one of them, so the numbers on the other two have no thumb on the scale.
Repair the boiler
An OFTEC technician will charge £150 to £400 for a typical repair, money well spent on a boiler under 10 years old with a single minor fault. Once the heat exchanger goes, parts dry up, or the winter breakdowns start stacking, that maths collapses. Repairs are not a service we offer.
Fit another oil boiler
£3,000 to £5,000 fitted at 2026 market rates, before the tank: replacing a tired single-skin tank with a bunded one adds £1,500 to £2,500 on top. You also sign up for another decade of bulk kerosene orders, tank upkeep, and annual servicing. Not something we fit, and hard to recommend with £9,000 available for the alternative.
Swap to a heat pump (what we do)
The route we install. Replace the oil system with an air source heat pump and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £9,000 of the bill until 31 March 2027. Qualifying park homes start from £399 fully installed, and the delivery you booked last winter turns out to have been the final one.
What does oil boiler replacement cost in a park home?
Budget £3,000 to £5,000 fitted for a like-for-like oil boiler swap at 2026 market rates, and treat the tank as part of the question: a new bunded tank adds £1,500 to £2,500 supplied and installed, and older single-skin tanks routinely fail the inspection a new boiler triggers. Get the model sized to the home and fitted by an OFTEC registered technician who holds the park home competency, not a general plumber.
None of that spend attracts a penny of grant, and it keeps coming after the install: £75 to £130 for the annual service, tank checks alongside it, and kerosene bought 500 litres at a time at whatever the market wants that week, repeated across the 10 to 15 years the boiler lasts. Set against that, the one oil boiler replacement we do offer removes the fuel bill altogether and arrives with £9,000 already deducted.
Is oil heating being phased out?
What the published policy actually says about oil's future, versus what park home owners on oil keep hearing in 2026.
- Policy
Is oil heating being banned?
No. Nothing in law forces you off oil, and no cut-off date has been set. Read the funding instead of the rumours, though: every pound of off-gas-grid grant money buys heat pumps, and the £9,000 oil-swap uplift was designed for exactly this switch (GOV.UK announcement, 26 June 2026).
- Alternatives
What can replace an oil boiler in a park home?
Three candidates: another oil boiler, an LPG system, or an air source heat pump. Only the heat pump attracts any grant, and only the heat pump ends fuel deliveries; the other two keep a tank on your plot and a price that follows global markets. Direct electric heating technically makes a fourth, but at around 26p per unit of heat it is the costliest option in Britain.
- Electric
Is switching from oil to electric heating a good idea?
Depends which electric. A panel heater or electric boiler gives you exactly one unit of heat per unit of electricity bought, with no grant to soften it. A heat pump multiplies the same electricity roughly threefold, bringing heat down to about 8.7p per kWh, and it is the version the £9,000 grant pays toward. Park homes already on direct electric have the full working on our electric heating replacement page.
- LPG
Is an oil to LPG conversion worth it?
Rarely, in 2026. You would spend real money to exchange an oil tank for a gas one while keeping the deliveries, the servicing, and the market-tracked prices. The £9,000 heat pump grant treats oil and LPG homes identically, so converting between them buys nothing the grant route doesn't beat. Heating with LPG already? Our LPG boiler replacement page runs the same comparison for your fuel.
What do oil-heated park home owners ask?
Grant eligibility and the switch itself lead; after that come oil servicing, repairs, tanks, and OFTEC engineers, answered plainly even where the work isn't ours.
Does UKEM repair or install oil boilers?
No, and we don't broker anyone who does. Our single oil service is taking the system out: an MCS-certified air source heat pump goes in under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and the £9,000 comes off before you pay. Homeowners staying on oil need an OFTEC registered technician for servicing and repairs; homeowners leaving it get the survey, install, and Ofgem paperwork from us as one job.
Is there a grant for oil boiler replacement?
Not for a new oil boiler: no government scheme funds one. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme only funds low-carbon systems, and it pays £9,000 when you replace oil heating with a heat pump, until 31 March 2027. The ECO4 scheme covers efficiency measures for benefit-qualifying households until December 2026, but not oil boiler swaps.
Is there any help with oil heating costs?
Nothing caps the price of heating oil itself. Pension-age households can claim the Winter Fuel Payment, the Warm Home Discount applies if you're eligible, and Cold Weather Payments trigger in prolonged freezes for qualifying households. All of it helps with bills; none of it changes what oil costs. The one scheme that removes the oil bill altogether is the £9,000 grant for switching to a heat pump, and it has no income or age test.
Do I need an EPC to get the grant?
No. Since 28 April 2026 a recent fuel bill and photos of your existing heating system are accepted as evidence instead.
What happens to my oil tank?
We plan it at your survey: the tank is drained and disconnected as part of the job, removal is arranged so it isn't left stranded on your plot, and usable oil can often be transferred or sold on. If you own a sound tank, selling it is also an option.
When should I replace an oil boiler rather than repair it?
Age is the deciding factor. A working life of 10 to 15 years is normal, so a boiler under 10 with one minor fault is usually worth fixing. The case flips once the heat exchanger fails, the parts list goes obsolete, or a third winter in a row starts with an engineer call-out. From there, every repair pound is better spent on whatever heats the home next.
How much does an oil boiler service cost?
Budget £75 to £130 a year for an OFTEC registered technician, with the tank inspected in the same visit. Skipping it risks the warranty and means faults surface in January instead of at the service. By comparison, a heat pump's annual check has no burner, flue, or tank to strip down, which keeps the visit shorter and cheaper.
Do I need an OFTEC engineer, or can any plumber work on my oil boiler?
Oil work should be done by an OFTEC registered technician, and work in a residential park home needs the right competency. A general plumber is not enough. You can check registration on the OFTEC website.
Is it worth shopping around for cheaper heating oil instead of replacing?
If your boiler has years left in it, yes: compare quotes each order and buy in summer when prices usually dip. If the boiler is near the end of its life, decide on the system first. Filling a 1,000 litre tank days before scrapping the system is money down the drain, and the £9,000 window closes 31 March 2027.
