Before you apply

Who can apply for finance, and what happens next?

Who can apply

You must be over 21, a UK resident and homeowner, and able to make regular monthly repayments from the lender's eligible source of income. Getting an install quote does not run a credit check. When you apply for finance, online or with our team, the lender runs a full credit check as part of the application, which is recorded on your file. No deposit is required on Pay Monthly Finance (optional up to 50%); the 0% option includes a mandatory deposit. The minimum finance amount is £1,000 and the maximum is £25,000.

Is UKEM finance FCA regulated?

Your finance is arranged through an FCA-authorised credit broker. You have a 14-day cooling-off period after signing and full consumer protections. If you have a complaint about your credit agreement, raise it with the lender first; if you remain unsatisfied, you can escalate free of charge to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Independent guidance on credit agreements is available from MoneyHelper.

How quickly will I get a finance decision?

You can apply online for an immediate decision, or we can take you through it. Most applications complete in a few minutes, with a same-day outcome in most cases.

Not approved? Other options available

Finance is subject to status and affordability, so not every application will be approved. If you are not successful, our team can discuss alternative payment arrangements.

Common questions

Finance questions homeowners ask us

What is the difference between the two options?

They are two separate finance products. The pay monthly option (9.9%APR Representative) is available on solar panels, battery storage, boilers and air source heat pumps, and lets you spread the cost over up to 15 years with interest and no deposit. The 0% interest-free option is available on battery storage over 12 to 24 months with a 25% deposit, and on selected boilers over 12, 24 or 36 months with a 20%, 30% or 40% deposit. You choose one or the other when you apply.

Is the 0% option really interest free?

Yes. With the 0% option, no interest is charged at any point during the agreement. The total you repay, deposit included, equals the cash price of your installation, with no arrangement fees added to the headline price. Available on battery storage and selected boilers, subject to status.

Will I need to pay a deposit?

It depends on the option. Pay Monthly Finance needs no deposit, though you can put down up to 50% to reduce your monthly payments. Interest Free Credit always includes a deposit: 25% on battery storage, and 20%, 30% or 40% on selected boilers depending on whether you repay over 12, 24 or 36 months. You can choose to pay more, up to 50%. The minimum finance amount after any deposit is £1,000. Terms are confirmed in your credit agreement before you sign.

When will my first monthly payment be taken?

Your first payment is normally collected by Direct Debit around one month after your installation is complete, not when you apply or when the agreement is signed. The exact date is confirmed in your credit agreement before you sign and commit.

Will applying affect my credit score?

No for a quote alone; yes if you apply for finance. Getting an installation price doesn't touch your credit file. A full finance application runs a credit check recorded on your file, and only happens once you choose regulated credit. This is standard for any regulated credit agreement.

Can I pay off the finance early?

Yes. You can settle either agreement early at any time. On the 0% option you simply pay the remaining balance. On the 9.9%APR option you may save on interest by settling early. You can also make overpayments at any time to reduce the outstanding balance.

Who provides the finance?

UK Energy Management Group Ltd is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Shermin Finance Limited, trading as STAX, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Shermin Finance Limited acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Full details of the lender will be provided as part of your credit agreement.

Can I combine finance with a government grant?

Yes. If you are eligible for a grant such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, the grant amount is deducted from the total cost first. You can then finance the remaining balance using either option. See our grants advice hub for current schemes.

How much can I borrow?

The minimum loan amount is £1,000 and the maximum is £25,000, covering most residential installations we quote. If you pay an optional deposit, the financed amount after the deposit must still be at least £1,000. Your quote shows the cash price so you can see what fits within those limits before applying.

What if I have a complaint about my finance?

If your complaint relates to the credit agreement, raise it first with the lender named on your agreement. If you are still not satisfied with their final response, you can escalate free of charge to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) at financial-ombudsman.org.uk or 0800 023 4567. The FOS is independent and its findings may differ from those of TrustMark, the Consumer Protection Association, or RECC, which cover the installation rather than the credit.
