Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the two options?
They are two separate finance products. The pay monthly option (9.9%APR Representative) is available on all our products and lets you spread the cost over up to 15 years with interest. The 0% interest free option is only available on boilers and battery storage, with a fixed 36-month term and no interest charged. You choose one or the other when you apply.
Is the 0% option really interest free?
Yes. With the 0% option, no interest is charged at any point during the 36-month agreement. The total you repay equals the cash price of your installation.
Will I need to pay a deposit?
No, neither option requires a deposit. If you prefer, you can put down an optional deposit of up to 50% of the total price to reduce your monthly payments. The minimum finance amount is £1,000.
When will my first monthly payment be taken?
Your first payment is normally collected by Direct Debit around one month after your installation is completed and signed off, not when you apply or when the agreement is signed. The exact date is confirmed in your credit agreement before you commit.
Will applying affect my credit score?
A full credit check is carried out as part of the application, which will appear on your credit file. This is standard for any regulated credit agreement.
Can I pay off the finance early?
Yes. You can settle either agreement early at any time. On the 0% option you simply pay the remaining balance. On the 9.9%APR option you may save on interest by settling early. You can also make overpayments at any time to reduce the outstanding balance.
Who provides the finance?
UK Energy Management Group Ltd is an Appointed Representative of Shermin Finance Limited, trading as STAX, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Shermin Finance Limited acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Full details of the lender will be provided as part of your credit agreement.
Can I combine finance with a government grant?
Yes. If you are eligible for a grant such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, the grant amount is deducted from the total cost first. You can then finance the remaining balance using either option. See our grants advice hub for current schemes.
How much can I borrow?
The minimum loan amount is £1,000 and the maximum is £25,000. If you pay an optional deposit, the finance amount after the deposit must still be at least £1,000.
What if I have a complaint about my finance?
If your complaint relates to the credit agreement, raise it first with the lender named on your agreement. If you are still not satisfied with their final response, you can escalate free of charge to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) at financial-ombudsman.org.uk or 0800 023 4567. The FOS is independent and its findings may differ from those of TrustMark, the Consumer Protection Association, or RECC, which cover the installation rather than the credit.
